We all love camping, but Kelly especially loves it. When we told her our getaway would include camping, she talked about it for days, and constantly asked, “are we going camping now?”
So there’s no way we could skip out on camping, even though it was nearly 8 pm by the time we arrived at the campgrounds we’d chosen: the Humboldt Redwoods State Park off the Avenue of the Giants. It was one of the nicest campgrounds I’ve been to: the site was level with lots of good spots to set up a tent, and while we were setting up, the park ranger came by so we could pay for the site without having to go back to the headquarters. As an added convenience, she had wood we could buy so we were able to make a campfire and roast marshmallows for S’Mores, another treat Kelly couldn’t stop talking about how much she loved.
In the morning, we enjoyed the massive redwood trees all around us. From what I’ve heard, the coast redwoods like the ones in this grove, are the world’s largest living creatures.
The van in this picture gives you some perspective on the size of the trees. No, it’s not ours–it belongs to the (presumed) hippies in a nearby campsite, but it gives you an inkling of the trees’ size.
